How to make roses last longer

There are several simple yet important things that you can do to make roses last longer.

The first thing your should do when you receive your roses (or when you get them home) is to trim the stems under running water. Freshly cut stems immediately begin to absorb water, so cut your roses under a running tap, and get them into a vase of fresh water as soon as possible. Roses love to be kept in cold water, it keeps them 'awake' and keeps the flowers heads tight. You can even add an ice cube to the water every now and then to give them a boost, or spray the flowers with a mist of cool clean water.

Also, make sure you change the vase water at least every few days. If the water is dirty enough that you wouldn't drink it, your roses won't like it either.

If your roses came with an sachet of flower food, save it until your roses actually start to look hungry. If your roses start to look tired, trim off any excess leaves, as this will allow the flowers to absorb more water.
